A Conversation with Kate

As part of our 10-year anniversary celebrations, we're introducing the people who make AT Dance what it is. This week: Miss Kate, who has been teaching with us for six years.
Six years ago, Miss Kate joined AT Dance. She came in as a lifelong dancer studying primary teaching who loved what she did and wanted to find somewhere as passionate as she was. From her very first class, it was clear she belonged here.

Today, she teaches All Levels Technique, Junior Troupe and Senior jazz, and over the past six years she has become one of the most-loved faces at the school. We sat down with her to talk about her time at AT Dance - what she's learned, what she loves, and what keeps her coming back.

What do you love most about teaching at AT Dance?

I love seeing the growth of every student who steps into the studio, from the beginning of the year right through to the final performance of the concert. It’s so special watching students not only develop their dance skills, but also grow in confidence and become more comfortable being themselves.

I also love the connections. Being at AT Dance for six years has meant I’ve been able to create such strong relationships with the students and staff at the studio. It makes coming to work each week so much fun!

A moment you'll never forget

One funny moment I’ll never forget was when I was upstairs teaching Senior Jazz and Miss Andi was downstairs with the Adult Jazz class. I got a notification that I could join her Spotify session, and we all thought it would be hilarious to take over and change their music on them!

The only problem was, we couldn’t decide what song to pick. After throwing around a few ideas, we finally settled on The Duck Song and waited.

Then we heard the song start playing and we all started laughing. As it got louder, we could also hear the sound of stomping coming up the stairs. Miss Andi and the Adult Jazz ladies appeared with extremely unimpressed faces - and we completely lost it!

It was such a funny, spontaneous moment that perfectly sums up what I love about AT Dance. There is always so much fun and laughter behind the scenes, and it’s the little moments like these that make working here so special.

How has AT Dance changed over the six years you've been here?

The community has grown and we have moved, but the feeling hasn’t changed. It was a warm place six years ago and it’s a warm place now.

The difference is that we get to watch more families grow up here. While the students grow and change, that same excitement of coming to dance, learning a new skill and performing remains - and it’s so special to witness and be a part of.

What would you say to a family thinking about trying AT Dance?

While it can be a scary thing to try something new, I couldn’t recommend giving AT Dance a go enough! You’ll feel right at home within the first 10 minutes of being here, and there is such a welcoming community waiting to meet you. Whether your child has danced before or is stepping into a studio for the very first time, there is a place for everyone at AT Dance.
